During February 2012, our school has been gladly welcome two visiting lecturers from Bonn University, Germany. They have been kindly given our students two lectures, practical laboratories and a seminar namely below;
Dr. Nadine Schulze-Kaysers, who is currently lecturer at the Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences, Food Technology and Biotechnology, University of Bonn, gave our master’s degree students an informative and scientific knowledge on the topic of “The use of natural antioxidants I & II”. The lecture also includes her research work and the technology for natural antioxidant extraction process from agricultural waste.
Apart from lecture, she also prepared a practical course in the title of ““Recovery of antioxidant polyphenols from apple pomace“ for the master’s degree students. The course provided laboratory practice for 3 parts: (I) Ethanolic Extraction of Polyphenols from Apple Pomace, (II) Determination of Total Polyphenol Content – Folin Ciocalteu Test, and (III) Determination of Antioxidant Activity – TEAC assay with ABTS radical.
On the 1st March 2012, Ms. Eva Beierle has been presented a part of her research work in a Faculty seminar class on the topic of “The influence of the fermentation conditions on growth and exopolysaccharide production by Lactobacillus rhamnosus”. She is currently PhD student at the Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences, Food Technology and Biotechnology, University of Bonn, Germany. On her presentation, she gave us a scientific results concluded from parts of her dissertation. Also, our 4th year students, master’s degree students and faculty members have been attended the seminar.
